Burst on Multiple Columns or Fields

DocumentBurster can be configured to burst on multiple columns (or fields). This can be used to split the input PDF reports by different levels of detail from general to specific.

Use Case Example

Report with three columns:

Director – Manager – Total Sales

The requirement is to burst on both the director column (should be emailed to all directors) and the manager column (should be emailed to all managers).

Configure DocumentBurster to Burst on Multiple Columns

DocumentBurster can split the input PDF reports using multiple columns. Each of these splitting columns should be defined as a separate burst token. In the above scenario DocumentBurster can be configured to use both {director_id} and {manager_id} as burst tokens when splitting the input PDF reports.

Assuming there is a PDF report which contains sales data for three (3) directors and ten (10) managers. Such a report can be configured similarly with the following:

  • {director_id 1} – Hank Genk – Total Sales 3000 (Page1)
    • {director_id 1} {manager_id 1} – Rolanda Dreemdell – Total Sales 500 (Page2)
    • {director_id 1} {manager_id 2} – Titus Somable – Total Sales 1000 (Page3)
    • {director_id 1} {manager_id 3} – Linus Glasprude – Total Sales 1500 (Page4)
  • {director_id 2} – Sheila Liskdell – Total Sales 2000 (Page5)
    • {director_id 2} {manager_id 4} – Serena Frashdart – Total Sales 1000 (Page6)
    • {director_id 2} {manager_id 5} – Jasper Flalpadder – Total Sales 1000 (Page7)
  • {director_id 3} – Maxfield Black – Total Sales 5000 (Page8)
    • {director_id 3} {manager_id 6} – Ernest Clulfish – Total Sales 1000 (Page9)
    • {director_id 3} {manager_id 7} – Toby Cilpbarn – Total Sales 1000 (Page10)
    • {director_id 3} {manager_id 8} – Angus Zalpall – Total Sales 1000 (Page11)
    • {director_id 3} {manager_id 9} – Ramona Flotthane – Total Sales 1000 (Page12)
    • {director_id 3} {manager_id 10} – Karmen Lackton – Total Sales 1000 (Page13)

When bursting this PDF report DocumentBurster will generate thirteen (13) output files:

  • Three (3) reports for the directors {director_id 1} (pages 1,2,3 and 4), {director_id 2} (3 pages) and {director_id 3} (6 pages)
  • Ten (10) reports for the ten sales managers (one page for each manager)
